These days, Dr. Gail Weingast is Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut. However, she cares more about accomplishments than her title. Dr. Weingast is highly regarded for her steady stewardship of what she has transformed into one of the best radiology departments in the Northeast. She is considered to be among the most accomplished radiology specialists in the country.
Of course, it was not clear at first that Gail Weingast saw a career ion medicine as a calling early on. When she began her education in 1969, she attended Jackson College at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts and earned her first degree, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. Something became clear soon after, however, because she attended the Boston University School of Medicine, and earned the right to be referred to as Dr. Gail Weingast MD in 1976.
Following medical school, Dr. Gail Weingast also did a pediatrics internship from 1976-1977 at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, then completed a residency in pediatrics over the next two years, after which she also completed a residency in the field of radiology from 1980 to 1983 and a fellowship in the field of ultrasound in 1983, all under the guidance of Colorado General. That said, Dr. Weingast completed her post-graduate studies as a radiologist from 1983 to 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver.Education in hand, Dr. Gail Weingast then practiced in radiology at several other hospitals in Colorado, before heading to New York state, before she finally accepted and settled into her current position at Backus Hospital.
