• Dr. Gail Weingast Biography

  • Posted on January 30, 2017
  • Though it is hard to imagine now that she is one of the most prominent radiology specialists in the country, medicine apparently wasn’t Dr. Gail Weingast’s first calling. In fact, her first experience in higher education featured her obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Jackson College, Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts. It must have occurred to her soon after; she attended the Boston University School of Medicine and officially became Dr. Gail Weingast in 1976. That was more than four decades ago.

Once she decided to go into medicine, however, Dr. Gail Weingast went into it with everything she had. After medical school, she completed an internship and a residency program in pediatrics, followed by a residency in radiology and a fellowship in ultrasound, all at Colorado General Hospital in Denver. She stayed in Denver to complete her post-graduate studies as a radiologist at St. Anthony’s Hospital, from 1983-1984. She worked at several other hospitals in Colorado, before going to New York or a time. Eventually she settled down at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she is the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging. She has been there for more than two decades and she’s transformed their radiology department into one of the finest anywhere.
